Situated in the heart of the city, the Munich Central Railway Station, aka Munich Hauptbahnhof, is the major train terminal in the German Bavaria region. Even at the very first glance at the Munich station map, you can see that the size of this massive structure is overwhelming, as this station is not only the center of all regional routes but also the main hub for underground and suburban rail lines. Being the third-busiest railway station in Germany, Munich's Hbf serves about 450 000 passengers per day! Other proof of its impressive efficiency is the fact that the Munich Hauptbahnhof is ranked as a first-class station by Deutsche Bahn.
Because of its impressive size, navigation around the Munich station can be quite confusing. But don't worry, we have your back! Below, you find a video with some useful information about the station and handy tips that make your Germany travel absolutely worry-free!
The Munich central station is beneficially situated right in the heart of the city near Marienplatz, so it can be easily reached by public transport, including the S-Bahn (suburban trains) and the U-Bahn (underground metro).
Thanks to its beneficial location, you can easily get from Munich's main station to the airport. The cheapest option is to take the S-Bahn train on the lines S1 or S8 (keep in mind that the S8 is much faster). Alternatively, you can also hop on the Lufthansa Express that departs from the Munich Hbf station every 15 minutes.
On the first floor of the station, you can find plenty of food shops, ticket offices, bathrooms, luggage lockers, ATMs, and a help center. Moreover, if you are traveling with kids, the Munich Hbf complex also features the Children and Youth Museum of the City of Munich, where you can have lots of fun together with your loved ones!
Regarding the Munich Hauptbahnhof luggage storage, for a small fee, you can leave your belongings in the short-term lockers for up to 6 hours.
Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the Munich Hauptbahnhof station. You can easily connect to the M-WLAN network and surf the internet for one hour. If you need more time, no worries, you just need to log in one more time.
When it comes to safety issues, in terms of common sense, we advise you not to leave your luggage and other belongings unattended to dodge the troublesome situations. Apart from that, it is fair to say that the station is a safe place to be by modern standards.
