The Shinkansen bullet train is the best choice for travel from Osaka and Tokyo — the Tokaido Shinkansen line covers the 515 km distance in just 2 hours and 21 minutes on the fastest service. Trains depart from Shin-Osaka Station to Tokyo Station over 120 times daily. All bullet trains serving the Osaka to Tokyo railway route are modern and well-equipped with reclining seats, generous legroom, and power outlets at every seat on the newer N700S trains.

 

Three services operate on the Tokaido Shinkansen line. Nozomi trains are the fastest at 2 hours and 30 minutes — Nozomi Shinkansen tickets cost approximately $149 one way. Hikari and Kodama trains are covered by the Japan Rail Pass — Hikari train tickets cost ¥4,960 with a JR Pass. Kodama Shinkansen trains stop at every station and take over 4 hours. A standard one-way trip costs ¥13,620 without a JR Pass. The last train departs Shin-Osaka at 21:24.

 

Ordinary Car seats are configured in a 3x2 layout with fold-down tables and power outlets. Green Cars feature a 2x2 layout with deeper recline and dedicated footrests. Travelers can secure a view of Mt. Fuji by booking a window seat on the left side. Luggage larger than 160 cm must reserve an oversized baggage area seat in advance.
